Sample Society By Beauty Bar - December 2012 Review - Monthly Beauty Subscription Boxes

My only complaint with Sample Society is that sometimes they send too many skincare items and not enough makeup items. Fortunately that wasn't a problem this month. I'm really pleased with the December box!

Vapour Organic Beauty Elixir Gloss in Sultry - FULL SIZE! Value $20

I LOVE this lip gloss! It's not sticky at all and has a ton of shine. I'm so used to getting lip glosses that have artificial dyes in them, so I'm thrilled that this has natural and organic ingredients.

Murad Line Tamer Age Reform Time Release Retinol Concentrate - .1 oz Value $13

At first I thought this was a small sample, but it's actually 1/5 the size of the full size, and a little goes a long way. It should be enough for me to use for a few weeks!

Philosophy Living Grace Shampoo, Bath and Shower Gel - 1 oz Value $1.37

Hanskin Super Plus Perfect BB Cream - Packet - Value $.25?

Delaney Wellness Rejuvenating Eye Cream - .33 oz Value $33.75

Wow! This is an expensive little sample! It's 1/4 the size of the full size, and I should be able to get a few weeks use out of it.

Hanskin Premium Perfect Super Magic BB Cream SPF 30 - 10 mL Value $7.34

I'm still not entirely sure why they including a packet and a tube of BB Cream from Hanskin, but I'm not complaining!

Verdict: I think this is the best value I've ever seen for a Sample Society box - approximately $75! Plus I'm going to use everything! What did you think of this month's box?

Wow this Erno Laszlo cream is $345 full size! It's supposed to help reduce and heal scars - at that price I hope it works!


Verdict: I paid $15 for this box and received over $30 worth of high quality beauty products. These are great products that I'm going to try - but I must admit, I get a lot more excited when there is at least one make up item in the box! What did you think of this box?

I've been curious about diptyque scents (I've seen their candles in so many magazines) so I'm glad I got to try this. This scent wasn't for me though!

Borghese B Gloss Lip Gloss in Fiore - .16 oz (practically full size) Value $14

This is my new go-to lip gloss! I love the color and shine and it's not too sticky!

Verdict: This is another awesome box from Sample Society! I paid $15 and received nearly $40 worth of product I will use! I also think they are getting much better at having the right mix of makeup and skincare products. Were you happy with this month's box?

Arcona Cranberry Toner - 1 oz Value $9 

I haven't tried this yet, but it gets excellent reviews. Most toners can dry out skin, but apparently this brand is very hydrating.

Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Private Dancer - FULL SIZE! Value $18

Don't you just love it when just 1 item in a box is worth more than the cost of the box?! A perfect shade for fall.

Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Face Moisturizer - .04 oz Value $1

I thought this packet was a great bonus as I was excited to try to this brand. I really like this moisturizer: it's great for sensitive skin, and also prevented my face from getting oily throughout the day.

Phtyo Pre Shampoo Ultra Nourishing Oil Treatment - .33 oz Value $5

I love this brand and was excited to try this product, but I was so worried the oil treatment would leave my hair looking greasy. The good news - no greasy look. The neutral news - couldn't see a real difference in hair. The instructions tell you to use it once or twice a week for 5 weeks. The sample has about 2 uses in it, so I may not be able to see the impact.

Jane Iredale Longest Lash Mascara - (Black Ice) .1 oz Value $7.80

Elemental Herbology Facial Glow Radiance Peel - .5 oz Value $18.80

I haven't gotten the chance to try either of these products yet, but will update when I do.

Verdict: For $15 I received about $60 worth of product. Not only is this a great value, but I am really excited about every product. Beauty Bar has been consistent with providing deluxe sized samples at a great value, and I think the variety of samples is improving as well. Great box!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles - (Neutralizer shade) FULL SIZE! Value $7

I've seen this around, but never tried it since I have a concealer for under my eyes I already like. Finally, time to try! This goes on thin, and the neutralizer shade looked a little yellow on my skin tone. I was about to give up, but then I added my powder foundation on top and loved the results! Because it goes on so thin, it doesn't cake up. This is now my new under eye concealer. Thank you CEW and Beauty Bar!

Loreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes - FULL SIZE! Value $8

This reminds me a lot of my current go-to mascara, Lancome Hypnose. It creates thick long lashes, and you can put on multiple layers without clumping. Another product that makes me happy I bought not 1 but 3 boxes!

L'Occitane Lavender Hand Cream - 1 oz Value $10

I love L'Occitane, and this is such a classic scent. Perfect size for storing in your purse.

SuperGoop SPF 30+ Everyday - 1.6 oz Value $11

Is it just me or is this the "it" sunscreen of the summer? I feel like I've seen it everywhere! Adding these to the sunscreen bin!

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips - (Animal Instinct) 2 sets Value $12 total

I've heard good things about these nail polish strips, but this pattern just isn't for me. I wish they would have given two different options instead of the same one, but considering how awesome this box is and how little I paid, I really have no room to complain!

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer - .11 oz Value $15

I haven't tried this product yet, but it gets good reviews on Amazon, and it's supposed to be anti-aging and waterproof.

Burt's Bees Red Dahlia Tinted Lip Balm - FULL SIZE! Value $7

I LOVE this product. I'm not a lipstick person, but I love a tinted balm, and I love Burt's Bees, so I am thrilled to have 3 of these!

StriVectin-TL Tightening Neck Cream - .25 oz Value $13

I really liked the StriVectin serum I received in another subscription box, so I recommend the brand, but can't speak to this product.

Heidi Klum Shine - .5 oz Value $2

Burt's Bees Cocoa & Cupuacu Butters Body Lotion - FULL SIZE! Value $9.50

Loving that there are two Burt's Bees products in this box! This lotion smells divine (not too strong) and it is super moisturizing (not too greasy).

Loreal Youth Code Serum Intense - FULL SIZE! Value $15

I normally stick to department store serums, but given that everything else in this box has been great, I'm guessing this serum will be excellent as well. Many of the reviews on Amazon compare this product to Lancome's Genifique, and prefer Youth Code, so I'm very excited to try this one.


Verdict -  For $14, I received about $110 worth of top choice product. I'm so glad I purchased three boxes! I definitely recommend the CEW Insiders' Choice Beauty Box, and I hope they continue to do these boxes in the future!

Sample Society / Beauty Bar Subscription Box Review - July

One of the reasons I love Sample Society is the fact that they consistently ship out the boxes at the very beginning of the month! (I hate waiting :) I've been a subscriber since the first box and they give out very deluxe size samples with the value always exceeding what I paid ($15 a month). I'm a fan!

Here's the break down with values:

Vincent Longo Dup Lip Pencil in Sangria and White Glimmer - FULL SIZE! - Value $26

I can tell this is a high quality item, but unfortunately the Sangria color goes on too dark for my skin tone. Any suggestions on how to use the white glimmer lip liner?

Borghese Tono Body Creme - 1 oz,  approx value $5.00

I love that this moisturizer works really well without being greasy. And it's a large sample size that will last a while - win!

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint - .17 oz, approx value $4.00

I got this in the bronzed shade. It's great if you are looking for a really light alternative to foundation for the summer. And it's oil free.

Vbeaute Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Cream - 1 ml - approx value $5.00

I've tried this for the past two nights, and like every other eye cream I've ever tried, I think it's nice but can't see any difference in my under eye area.

Sisley Hydra-Global Intense Anti Aging  Hydration - 4 ml - approx value $25.00

Wow, the full size of this is $250! I love the product, but it hasn't transformed my skin in a way that I can justify that price tag just yet. I think there's at least a week or two of uses in this sample, so I'll update if I find out this cream is indeed life-changing.


Verdict: I'm very happy with this box: The value is about $65 and I paid $15. I also will use most of the products and I'm already looking forward to the August box!
