Beauty Bar Sample Society September 2012 Review - Monthly Beauty Box Subscriptions

Diptyque eua de toilette - 2 ml Value $2.25

I've been curious about diptyque scents (I've seen their candles in so many magazines) so I'm glad I got to try this. This scent wasn't for me though!

Beauty Bar Sample Society September 2012 Review - Monthly Beauty Box Subscriptions

Ahava Time To Clear Purifying Mud Mask - .9 oz Value $6.14

CellCeuticals Extremely Gentle Skin Cleanser - 2 oz Value $10.45

Beauty Bar Sample Society September 2012 Review - Monthly Beauty Box Subscriptions

Borghese B Gloss Lip Gloss in Fiore - .16 oz (practically full size) Value $14

This is my new go-to lip gloss! I love the color and shine and it's not too sticky!

Stila Smudge Crayon in black - deluxe sample size Value $5?

Verdict: This is another awesome box from Sample Society! I paid $15 and received nearly $40 worth of product I will use! I also think they are getting much better at having the right mix of makeup and skincare products. Were you happy with this month's box?

Honest Company Family Essentials Sample Kit Review - Eco Friendly Monthly Subscription Box

Honest Company Essentials Sample Kit Review - Eco Friendly Monthly Subscription

When I originally read about the Honest Company, I thought it was for families with children (they offer eco-friendly diaper subscriptions).  Thanks to My Subscription Addiction reader Amanda, I learned that they also offer a wide array of eco-friendly household products - I had to sign up!

Honest Company Family Essentials Sample Kit Review - Eco Friendly Monthly Subscription

This review is of the Honest Company Essentials Sample Kit. (They also offer a diapers sample kit). It's free - I just had to pay $5.95 for shipping. It's a great way to sample the products before you commit to a full-size monthly subscription.

Honest Company Family Essentials Sample Kit Review - Eco Friendly Monthly Subscription

The Box: The Honest Company

The Cost: Try a free discovery kit and only pay $5.95 shipping. The Family Essentials monthly kit (5 full size products) is $35.95. The Honest Diapers monthly bundle is $79.95.

COUPON CODE: Use code JOIN2GET10 to save $10 on your first full size monthly kit!

The products: The family essentials kit has eco-friendly household essentials like laundry detergent, soap, sunscreen, shampoo, etc. You can customize it each month. The Honest Diapers bundle has enough diapers and wipes to last an entire month.

Honest Company Family Essentials Sample Kit Review - Eco Friendly Monthly Subscription

Honest Shampoo and Body Wash in Sweet Orange Vanilla - 1 oz

This sort of smells like a delicious cream-sicle and is sulfate free! It measures up to my other sulfate free shampoos.

Honest Face and Body Lotion (Fragrance Free) - 1 oz

This lotion is thin, dries quickly and keeps my skin moisturized. I love it for my body but probably wouldn't use it on my face.

Honest Healing Balm (Fragrance Free) - 1 oz

This balm is very similar to aquaphor and seems to work just as well, plus it's organic.

Honest Company Family Essentials Sample Kit Review - Eco Friendly Monthly Subscription

Honest Laundry Detergent Free and Clear - 2 oz

This sample can do two laundry loads if you have an HE washer, or one load with a regular washer. This sample also was my favorite in the box! I've been in the process of replacing all my household cleaning products with green alternatives, and laundry detergent was a tough one for me. I couldn't find a green detergent that cleaned as well as Tide - until now! I am adding this to my monthly full size subscription ASAP!

Honest Hand Soap in Organic Lemongrass - 2 oz

I love hand soap samples like this for traveling where hotels typically only give you bar soap. I love the lemon scent of this soap so I'll be adding it to my monthly subscription as well.

Verdict: Honest Company is one of my favorite new discoveries.  The product quality is top-notch and I love that I can customize each month's box. For my first month I think I'll pick: Honest Laundry Detergent, Honest Dishwasher Pods, Honest Oxy-Boost, Honest Stain Remover, and Honest Fruit and Veggie Wash.

Have you sampled other Honest products? Any favorites you recommend?

Blissmo Box September 2012 Review - Skin 'n' Hair Care

Each month Blissmo emails subscribers to select their upcoming box. (You get three options). I'm always wondering if I made the right decision - but this time I'm really pleased with my choice. This is definitely a great box!

Blissmo Box September 2012 Review - Skin 'n' Hair Care

The box: Blissmo Box

The price: $19 a month plus 5.95 shipping. If you subscribe at the annual rate, the cost is $228 (free shipping). This is the option I selected since the savings were so substantial. ($71 savings)

The products: A mix of eco-friendly and organic products. From Blissmo: "We curate products that are (a) high design & quality, (b) organic / no or low toxin, (c) eco-friendly / sustainable and (d) awesome, that are safer & better for you, your family & your planet."

I love it when the first item out of the box is already worth more than the cost of the box!

Giovanni Ultra Sleek Shampoo - 1.5 oz Value $1.50

Yay! This shampoo is sulfate free! (I have color treated hair so I only use sulfate-free hair products).

La Fresh Body Soother Wipes - FULL SIZE! Value $10

I am a big fan of the La Fresh brand (I use their eye makeup remover wipes and nail polish remover wipes on a regular basis). Needless to say, I'm very excited to try these as well!

Wellinhand Action Therapy Oil - vial size - Value $1

Verdict - I paid $19 and received nearly $40 of natural beauty products - I am thrilled! This may be my favorite Blissmo Box yet!

Birchbox also included a Fall Lookbook with ten fall trends to try. Plus one more extra bonus: a $25 off $75 coupon from Madewell.

Verdict: For $10 I received about $21 worth of beauty samples to try. I also reviewed the items and earned an extra 70 Birchbox points ($7) so this box was a great deal. There was a good mix of beauty, skincare, and hair care products. Now I can't wait for my second Birchbox to arrive!

Whimsey Box - Monthly Craft Subscription Box Review - September 2012

Whimsey Box - Monthly Craft Subscription Box Review - September 2012

This is my first Whimsey Box and I'm pretty frustrated and confused by it.  I was really looking forward to getting more crafty (I have a DIY pinterest board but have yet to act on it!) and I thought Whimsey Box would be a great craft-time reminder each month.

Whimsey Box - Monthly Craft Subscription Box Review - September 2012

First off, the packaging is beautiful. It has great branding and made me feel like I was unwrapping a gift! Sadly, this is where the fun part of the box ended for me.

Whimsey Box - Monthly Craft Subscription Box Review - September 2012

The Box: Whimsey Box

The Cost: $25 a month

The Products: Craft products and ideas (This month's project idea was a painted pattern scarf)

Whimsey Box - Monthly Craft Subscription Box Review - September 2012

White fabric scarf - Value $1

The picture doesn't show the scale of the fabric, but it's about the size of a dinner napkin. Unfortunately the fabric feels very cheap (It's 100% polyester, very thin and very stiff).

Whimsey Box promotional ruler - bonus item

Whimsey Box - Monthly Craft Subscription Box Review - September 2012

Paint Brushes - Value $2

Whimsey Box - Monthly Craft Subscription Box Review - September 2012

Whimsey Box promotional sticker - bonus item

Whimsey Box - Monthly Craft Subscription Box Review - September 2012

DecoArt Ink Effects - 1 oz Value $7

This paint is definitely interesting. You use it on normal paper then iron it onto the fabric.

Verdict: I paid $25 and at most received about $10 worth of product.  I've never received a subscription box before where the value of the items were less than half of what I paid.  In addition, the paint brushes and scarf fabric are very low quality items. As a customer, I feel taken advantage of. I would cancel immediately but I signed up for a 3 month subscription.

To be fair, I should mention that Whimsey Box never claimed to have a certain value in their boxes, but I think it's standard practice for subscription services to hit close to the value paid by the customer.

So, like I stated before, I'm frustrated and confused! On one hand, I love the idea of a craft subscription box. Whimsey Box has also done a great job at packaging. But to me, the products just aren't sufficient.

I'll stop the ranting for now :) I am always honest on this blog, but I also try to keep things positive. This was a more negative post for me - but I felt it needed to be said. Please let me know what you think of this box and my opinion on it.

Joyus Snack Attack Pack Review - September 2012
